Meet Qadira

Lives here.
Rooted here.

Qadira Jackson's family has been strongly rooted in Scarborough for over 40 years. She has been a very active volunteer in Scarborough over the last 18 years. Before becoming a lawyer, she worked with children as a Social Worker in a variety of settings including elementary schools in the Toronto Catholic District School Board, homeless shelters, detention centres, and group homes. Moreover, she was the official past Ontario Liberal Candidate in SSW, and truly understands the issues facing her community.

Qadira was inspired to give back to her community by her mother who decided to open their home up to foster children. Growing up, she has shared her home with over 150 brothers and sisters. This experience helped her to understand the importance of building strong families and motivated her to work with children.

Qadira attended York University where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, followed by a Specialized Honours Bachelor of Social Work Degree and a post graduate Certificate in Dispute Resolution. She completed a placement at the Children's Aid Society Toronto and another at the Woman Abuse Council Toronto. She has a law degree from the University of Windsor.

Qadira has practiced as a lawyer for the past 16 years and opened her own law firm in 2011. In addition to her practice, Qadira co-founded a diversity equity and inclusion firm called Blink Equity, which published a first of its kind Diversity Audit report of representation of racialized lawyers in large law firms in Ontario.

She also spent 6 years as a councillor on the Professional Engineers Ontario's regulatory board and sat on many other boards including the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers, the Canadian Association of Urban Financial Professionals, Black Pearls Community Service Organization, the Law Society Ontario's Equity Advisory Group, Parish Council at her church and was president of a Scarborough Liberal riding association for many years.

Qadira has spent years on Parent Council and Chaired the first equity diversity and inclusion committee at her children's school. She is also a Director on the executive board at West Scarborough Neighbourhood Community Centre, a local hub and vital support for the SSW community.

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her spouse and two young boys, sewing, fashion design, DIY projects and speaking at events to inspire youth.

"This is not a political steppingstone for me. I am committed to the community where my children are being raised, and I would be honoured to represent Scarborough Southwest in our provincial Legislature."
